\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThrough the Australian Humanitarian Partnership\u2019s (AHP) Disaster READY Project, CARE and FOKUPERS sign a partnership agreement to focus on advocacy for National level Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) preparedness and response plan and budgeting to be gender responsive and effective in implementation through the Civil Protection Authority.\n

\nCommon experience reveals that women, people with disabilities and the LGBTQI+ community are left behind due to their absence in the DRR preparedness and planning processes. This partnership will mark an important step to ensure the needs and priorities of these groups are considered in the disaster planning cycle to lessen the impact they may face. Gender responsive budgeting ensures that the planning, allocation, execution, and auditing of resources will equally meet the diverse needs of women and men of all ages, including people with disabilities and the LGBTQI+ community.\n

\n\u201cWe want to help build a community where everyone is included. FOKUPERS is powerful with their advocacy and they are experienced in the area of gender equality in Timor-Leste. We believe that with this partnership, everyone, and particularly vulnerable groups, will be at the centre of national disaster risk reduction and response efforts\u201d, said the Human Resource Director for CARE (Current Officer in Charge), Yeni Pereira.\n

\nThe Director of FOKUPERS, Maria F\u00e1tima Pereira Guterres said, \u201cWe want to ensure that everyone who is a part of disaster emergency efforts increases their capacity and knowledge on the importance of gender responsive budgeting. When we achieve this, these entities will consider their annual work plan and state budget to be gender sensitive, and actually stay committed to this work once they are sensitised to the issue\u201d.\n
