Selebrasaun Eskola Susesu ho Programa Edukasaun no Nutrisaun HATUTAN iha Munisípiu Liquiça

 

Dili, 9 June 2023 – The HATUTAN Education and Nutrition Program and Liquiça Municipal Administration celebrated the successful progress of 12 schools in Liquiça municipality. The Liquiça Municipal Administrator opened the celebration with the participation of the Country Director of CARE, the Municipal Director of Education and HATUTAN Program staff. Students, teachers and school administrators from the 12 schools (four pre-schools, seven filial primary schools and one central school) received prizes of sports equipment, musical instruments and other items to support improve the quality of learning at their schools.

 

The HATUTAN Education and Nutrition Program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and implemented by CARE, Mercy Corps and WaterAid. The U.S government assistance is coordinated by the U.S. Embassy in Timor-Leste and implemented through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) and collaboration with Ministry of State Administration, Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. In 2023, HATUTAN will complete the fifth-year of implementation of activities in Ainaro, Ermera, Manatuto and Liquiça and will extend activities in Ainaro, Ermera, Manatuto and Oé-cusse until 2027.

 

In Liquiça, the program supported the Municipal Administration’s school feeding program in all pre-school and basic education schools benefiting a total number of 20,084 students. HATUTAN provided additional support in school management to 131 school administrators (74M, 57F), improved teaching of reading skills to 101 teachers (49M, 52F), and 206 members of Parent and Teachers’ Associations (131M, 75F) to increase participation of parents in their children’s education. Working in the communities to support parents, HATUTAN engaged 923 people (332M, 591F) to form 56 Village Savings and Loans Associations and assisted 10 MOH Family Health Promoters to provide health information to an additional 459 community members. The 12 schools succeeded to meet 75% or higher of the criteria demonstrating compliance of MEYS policies in classroom management, participatory teaching methods, improved school feeding implementation and hygiene and sanitation practices.
