Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Response

The Disaster READY project (DRP) is a key component of the Australian Humanitarian Partnerships (AHP) programme, funded by the Australian Government and implemented by a consortium of international development organisations, including CARE in Timor-Leste.
The consortium works in close partnership with the Government of Timor-Leste and the Secretary of State for Civil Protection, the key government agency that responds to disasters.
DRP works in Viqueque to establish and strengthen inclusive and sustainable disaster preparedness and response from community to national level. The overall objective is to ensure that communities are better able to respond and recover from rapid and slow onset disasters through building disaster preparedness, strengthening knowledge and skills, enhancing disaster risk reduction, strengthening early warning systems and improving coordination with partners to increase gender equality and disability inclusion, reduce gender-based violence and strengthen child protection. All while engaging with local government, civil society and faith leaders.
